Preparations for renovating the Vuosaari road tunnel begin outside at the Harbour end of the tunnel in week 34.  The work area is expanded in week 35 to include the Satamakaari ramp. One of the lanes away from Vuosaari Harbour is closed.

The autumn school semester will soon bring a large number of new people to traffic, as first-graders start going to school. Fintraffic and the Finnish Road Safety Council want to remind everyone of the importance of safety on the way to school. The official alternative route for the Vuosaari road tunnel was tested between 16 and 18 June.

Midsummer traffic will start towards the end of the week. Fintraffic, the police, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, the Finnish Road Safety Council, the Emergency Response Centre Agency, and the Ministry of the Interior Department for Rescue Services wish you a safe Midsummer on the road. Improvements to the alternative route for the Vuosaari road tunnel have mostly been completed, and the next step is to test the functioning of the route with traffic from 16 to 18 June. During the testing, the tunnel will be closed, and traffic will be directed to the improved alternative route. Planning for the renovation of the tunnel's technical systems is also progressing: planning of the renovation phases is under way, and as the work progresses, the schedule for the tunnel's closure later this year will be confirmed.

Demand for flight route services increased in 2024, even though air traffic in Finland recovered more slowly than in the rest of Europe. Air navigation services were provided for nearly 242,000 flights in area control and for over 153,000 take-offs and landings at Helsinki Airport. The number of overflights through Finnish airspace increased by more than 65,000 flights.

The Finnish aviation community is seeking shared solutions and coordinated measures to reduce unruly behaviour. In May, just before the busiest flight season, the community launches a joint campaign titled “Put yourself in flight mode”.

The annual winter holiday season is once again upon us and, as customary, schools start their holidays in three batches on 17 and 24 February and 3 March 2025, depending on the region. On the roads, there is a clear increase in the volume of northbound traffic during the holiday season.

A wide variety of aviation operators responded to the survey, ranging from strategic partners in air navigation and flight schools to smaller airport operators and general aviation representatives. This year, the total number of respondents and the percentage of pilots among respondents was slightly lower than in the previous year. On the other hand, the overall cooperation score for Fintraffic's Air Navigation Services increased slightly, rising to 4.0 this year (2023: 3.8).

It is the task of air traffic control to anticipate the effects of winter weather conditions and runway closures on the ground and in the air. If necessary, air traffic is controlled to provide realistic runway time for each arriving and departing flight.
